In general, most studies have described benefits on blood triglyceride levels with combined doses of EPA and DHA of at least 4 g, up to darwinian medicine 9 g/day. Side effects of fish oils include fishy aftertaste and dyspepsia, which may be improved by refrigeration of agent prior to administration. Reports have inconsistently noted an early, short-lived potential increase in blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. Fish oils may impair platelet aggregation and increase bleeding time, potentially reducing the risk for thrombosis.
