Air-displacement plethysmography works in a similar way to fattrack gold hydrostatic tank measurement. In the water tank method the person being measured needs to submerse his entire body in water after breathing out. With air-displacement plethysmography, the person sits in a confined chamber and breathes into a second chamber. Air displacement measurements are used in determining body fat. Claustrophobic patients may prefer water tanks, while those with a fear of water may prefer air-displacement plethysmography. |
