These recommendations29 are summarized in Table 3. According to a recent survey,30 farmed salmon have monitoring significantly higher levels of polychlorinated biphenyls and other organochlorine contaminants than wild salmon. There is disagreement among monitoring researchers, however, about the amount of farmed salmon that is safe to eat. High-quality fish oil supplements usually do not monitoring contain these contaminants. Eat up to 12 oz (two average meals) a week of a variety of fish and shellfish that are lower in mercury. Another commonly eaten fish, albacore ("white") tuna has more mercury than canned light tuna.
